HOT TAKE: You Don’t Actually Have to Be “Photogenic” To Walk Away With Good Photos
1. YOU DON’T NEED GUIDANCE TO FEEL PHOTOGENIC
Being overly directed often cause camera awareness or ‘awkward” behaviour because you don’t exist for cameras. I see better results just letting people do what they do and building off a natural moment. How to prepare for that, think of the ways that you naturally play with your partner, child, or pet and bring that energy with you!
2. AESTHETIC ALONE IS ONLY HALFWAY
Styles, trends, will come and go, but stories, connections, personalities and life behind the aesthetic will last forever
3. IT’S THE MOMENT NOT THE LIGHT, THAT WINS.
As a photographer I gasp at great light but your big moments happen in dark corners of a room, they happen under florescent lights, harsh sunlight and weird shadows. they happen in spite of the light and they all have value. yes it makes our job harder, yes we can our best to make the ceremony not in direct sunlight but at the end of the day, your moments will happen.
4. 90% DOCUMENTATION 10% DIRECTION.
I want your wedding day to feel more like life than a photo shoot. Documentation gives you space to be present, be yourself and focused on your priorities. Priorities like friends, family, your partner and then candid magic can happen!
